NKT has announced an important milestone in the innovative project Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution connecting Denmark and Germany.
Power cable systems from NKT is at the heart of Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution which is the world’s first offshore interconnector using the national grid connections of offshore wind farms to connect the power grids of Denmark and Germany.
NKT said it has successfully commissioned the turn key project of the 170 kV HVAC cable system for the combined grid solution connecting the wind farms Kriegers Flak and Baltic 2 for the innovative project Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution.
The project was completed according to schedule and on budget and allows the national grid operators Energinet in Denmark and 50Hertz in Germany to raise the bar for the connection of national power grids by connecting offshore wind farms and an interconnector power link.
NKT is providing the high-voltage cable systems for the innovative project connecting the Danish region of Zealand with the German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania via the two offshore windfarms in the Baltic Sea. When fully operational, the Kriegers Flak Combined Grid Solution will provide an important contribution to the national targets of renewable energy as well as the EU target of reaching a share of 32% renewable energy by 2030.
NKT is also providing the 220 kV HVAC cable system connecting the 600 MW Danish wind farm Kriegers Flak to the onshore power grid in Denmark which is expected to be taken into operation later this year.
