Intertek has been appointed by Greenlink Interconnector Limited, a subsidiary of Element Power, to provide marine environmental and planning support for the Greenlink Interconnector between UK and Ireland.
Greenlink Interconnector is a proposed €400 million electrical underground and submarine interconnector spanning 170 km with a capacity of 500MW, linking the power markets in UK and Ireland.
Under the contract, Intertek will provide a range of services including marine survey procurement, execution and reporting, in addition to client representation, coordination of pre-application consultation, consent applications (survey and installation) and consent compliance activities for Greenlink’s offshore infrastructure.
This will include delivery of a Foreshore License application to Ireland’s Foreshore Unit and a Marine License application to Natural Resources Wales.
Anna Farley, Greenlink project manager at Intertek Energy & Water said: “Element Power is a valued long-term client, and we are delighted to have been selected to support them in the next phase of the project. As a Total Quality Assurance solutions provider, Intertek is committed to supporting Greenlink’s environmental, regulatory and operational needs while working closely with their project team to develop one of the most important infrastructure projects in Europe.”
Simon Ludlam, Greenlink’s project director, said; “Greenlink will connect the power markets of Ireland and the UK bringing energy security, investment and low carbon benefits on both sides. Following the Irish regulator’s paper in March setting out the roadmap for approval of cap and floor regulation for Greenlink, we are now focused on progressing the environmental permitting. We are delighted to have reached a significant milestone in the project’s development in awarding a contract for marine environmental and planning support and look forward to continuing our successful relationship with Intertek.”
