First Borkum Riffgrund 2 Suction Bucket Jacket Lands on Seabed

The first of 20 suction bucket jackets has been installed at Ørsted’s Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm.

It is the first time that Ørsted utilises this type of foundation in one of their wind farms on a large scale.

Namely, the new foundation is a further development from the first installation of a suction bucket jacket in full-scale prototype at the offshore wind farm Borkum Riffgrund 1.

Today, a suction bucket jacket reaches a height of more than 50 metres, amounting to a weight of 950 tonnes.

The project was executed by DEME’s pecialist in offshore marine engineering projects – GeoSea, and the jack-up vessel ‘Innovation’.

“The noise during installation is reduced and this is an excellent testimony to the impressive progress in offshore wind, Ørsted noted.
