Energy Voice | Result expected on OCA strike action vote

The result is expected later today on a union ballot for North Sea strike action.

Workers are hoping for a 4% increase in basic pay from companies who are members of the Offshore Contractors Association (OCA).

Offshore union Unite’s ballot on industrial action closes today.

It comes after members rejected an offer in July for a 3.3% pay increase for the eight months to March 31, 2019.

A total of 2,500 Unite members are covered by the OCA agreement.

Member companies include Aker Solutions, Stork, Petrofac, Wood and Worley Parsons.

The result of the ballot, which opened on September 28, is expected this afternoon.

Unite argues workers deserve the increase for their part in helping firms be “competitive once again after the downturn”.

At the time of the ballot’s launch, the OCA said it was “disappointed” but its offer remains on the table.

A similar vote for the GMB union will close on Monday.
