Energy Voice | Naftogaz says London court froze Gazprom’s UK assets

Ukraine and Russia have clashed again, with Naftogaz serving Gazprom with an order to freeze assets in England and Wales.

Ukraine’s Naftogaz said the Commerical Court in London issued the order to enforce a Stockholm arbitration award, which stipulated Gazprom owed Naftogaz $2.6 billion.

The ruling in Sweden was supposed to draw a line under a legal dispute over gas deliveries, but Naftogaz said the Russian giant had ignored the decision.

The UK court issued order also requires Gazprom to provide Naftogaz with a list of all assets with a value greater than $50,000 in England or Wales.

Andriy Kobolyev, CEO of Naftogaz, said: “The Transit Award remains valid, and interest continues to accrue and we will seek enforcement in jurisdictions where enforcement is an option.”

Gazprom said it would “continue defending its rights”.
