Energy Voice | Kosmos wins £50m legal battle with Tullow Oil

UK firm Tullow Oil has lost a legal dispute with Kosmos Energy over the termination of a contract in Ghana.

Tullow has been ordered to make a payment to the firm, covering Tullow’s £39million liability for the deal.

Kosmos will also be reimbursed for £10.6million plus interest for legal fees and rig demobilisation.

A dispute between the two firms broke out over liability for costs following the termination of the West Leo drilling rig contract for the Deepwater Tano operation off the coast of Ghana in 2016.

Kosmos filed a request for arbitration with the International Chamber of Commerce in July 2016.

Tullow Oil, which is primarily focussed in Africa, is currently carrying out a decommissioning programme for its North Sea assets.
