Energy Voice | Building blocks for Aberdeen port expansion arrive in Scottish waters

A heavy load vessel carrying key building blocks for the £350 million expansion of Aberdeen Harbour has arrived in the Moray Firth.

Blue Marlin, owned by Dutch firm Dockwise, has transported the seven huge caissons more than 1,000 miles from La Coruna, Spain.

They will be used to build the closed quay sections at Nigg Bay, to the south of Aberdeen’s existing port.

Each caisson is 165 ft long and 50 ft high.

A total of 22 will be delivered to Aberdeen.

The first batch will be taken to Invergordon for inspection to ensure they have not been impacted by the journey.

Each caisson will then be floated to Aberdeen when required as construction progresses.
