Allseas starts operations on first-ever gig in China

Offshore oil and gas installation, construction, and decommissioning specialist Allseas has started work on CNOOC’s Lingshui 17-2 gas field development offshore China.

Allseas said on Tuesday that the project was the company’s “very first job in China”.

Two vessels – the Audacia and Calamity Jane – are currently in the South China Sea, working on the Lingshui 17-2 field.

During the project, Audacia will install some 160 kilometres of subsea pipelines and multiple structures in water depths up to 1,500 metres, with Calamity Jane providing the support.

Allseas’ scope of work on this project is the installation of 90-kilometre long 18-inch export line and PLET (pipeline end termination) systems at the deep end.

The company will also install four 10-inch flowlines totalling 53 kilometres and three 4.5-inch MEG lines totalling 19 kilometres. Both will have six PLETs.

According to the company, the client for the work is the Chinese Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC).

The vessels

The Audacia is Allseas’ pipelay vessel, optimised for the execution of small- to large-diameter pipeline projects of any length in all water depths, and for associated work such as the installation of risers and subsea protection frames.

Calamity Jane assists Allseas’ pipelay vessels with activities such as pre- and post-route survey, crossing preparation and mattress installation.

The vessel also operates as an independent unit with the mechanical pipeline trencher ‘Digging Donald’.

Aker Solutions supplying umbilicals

Deepwater subsea operations vessel Normand Oceanic picked up umbilicals for the Lingshui field development in late March.

The vessel arrived to pick up 22.3 kilometres of steel tube umbilicals. In total, Aker Solutions will deliver 71 kilometres of umbilicals to CNOOC for the Lingshui project by end of 2020. The company is also responsible for Lingshui subsea production system.

CNOOC awarded a contract to Aker Solutions to provide a subsea production system and umbilicals for the field at the end of 2018.

The offshore solutions provider cut first steel for the Lingshui field subsea project in September 2019.

Worth mentioning, Subsea 7 also won a deal for work on the field. Namely, it was awarded a contract for steel catenary risers installation services.

Lingshui field

Lingshui 17-2 is CNOOC’s first subsea deepwater project located in the South China Sea, off the Hainan Province.

The subsea production system for the Lingshui 17-2 field consists of eleven horizontal subsea trees, four manifolds, topside and subsea control system, and a vertical tie-in connection system.

The static and dynamic umbilicals will link the subsea development to a new semi-submersible platform.
